Helping Refugees

Many of us want to know what we can do to help.
It’s a time of conflict. But these are still refugees. Those who need sanctuary. If your heart isn’t broken by this…

So what do we do? I can’t go to Greece. But I know an organization that can. This is an organization that when we were in England and this was breaking at the beginning of September, I contacted a friend at Samaritan’s Purse. I knew if Samaritan’s Purse is involved, my money will be put to good use.

If you feel  like you want to do something, but you’re not sure what, then consider a gift to Samaritan’s Purse and praying for the refugees. Yes, there are those using this situation for their benefit, but that does not change the fact that there are still huge numbers of displaced on an incredibly dangerous journey. It is not a journey you undertake lightly. The video at the end of this post clearly highlights that.

Here is more from the Samaritan’s Purse website:

Are most of the refugees men? If so, why?

The majority of refugees are young men. It is more difficult for women, children, and the elderly to travel such long distances. Travel over sea (from Turkey to Greece or from North Africa to various European destinations) is incredibly dangerous and thousands of lives have been lost. Children are especially vulnerable. Samaritan’s Purse relief efforts are focused on helping the women and children who attempt the perilous journey.

Are people refusing food or other items?

Samaritan’s Purse staff report that refugees are in a rush to move on, but they are thankful for the assistance we have provided. Many are simply trying to get through to the next destination and are grateful for any help that they receive.

How can Christians pray?

Please pray for the safety of the refugees and that they will see the light of the Gospel through our efforts. Pray for the work of our staff, volunteers, and evangelical partners. Especially, pray for peace in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

The Rising Tide – Europe Refugee CrisisYou’ve probably seen footage on the news of refugees arriving in Greece by boat, but you’ve probably not seen anything like this. You’ve heard opinions about who they are or what they want, but you can see it firsthand in this video. These are the ones lying destitute on the road, and we must be the Good Samaritan. As team leader Dan Stephens shares, “We are the first faces they see when they land.” It’s our calling to show them the love of our Savior, and that is what many of you have helped us to do by your generous gifts.
