Fiction Friday: Summer Reads and a Giveaway

Cara Fiction Friday 13 Comments

It’s officially summer and Fiction Friday, so today I’ll share three books I read either on vacation or since I got home, plus one I just endorsed. I’m also giving away Courtney Walsh’s book that releases in early July but is already shipping, so be sure to read to the end and enter.

The first book I wanted to tell you about was The Progeny by Tosca Lee. I adored her debut novel Demon: a Memoir, but hadn’t read much since. I’m not really sure why. I was looking for something to read on the flight back from Florence, and this one came up on sale. I am so glad I snapped it up. The concept is tied to history with an amazing what if. I am dying to read Firstborn, the sequel. Essentially the heroine wakes up unsure who she is and without memories. She intentionally participated in a clinical trial to scrub her memory — it worked, but there are people after her and she doesn’t know why. The book becomes a race around the globe with a small group of people she rediscovers in her quest to determine what she is a part of and why.The Progeny is complex, rooted in history, but with some incredible twists. It is a heart-pounding race that readers of books like the Hunger Games and thrillers will love.

Next up is Pepper Basham’s Just the Way You Are. This book was a delightful contemporary romance with great humor and a touch of Cinderella. These are also incredibly real characters, each broken in their own way by events in their pasts. I loved this story of brokenness, forgiveness, grace, and humor. The romance is AMAZING. A truly swoon-worthy hero, but he’s not perfect. Who is? Only in books and movies are they perfect save one flaw. This man is so human, and that makes him all the more loveable. And I adored the heroine and her kids. Wow! They were perfect–in a broken kind of way. This book is perfect if you love a great romance that will leave you wanting more.

Finally, I’ve been reading The House on Foster Hill for endorsement this week. This is a wonderful split time novel that involves a murder in early 1900s Wisconsin and a modern day stalking. The two plots are connected by a ramshackle home. This author is one to watch, and I think you’ll really want to put this book in your preorder carts.

Now for the giveaway. My friend Courtney Walsh has a new book Just Look Up releasing right now. I haven’t had the chance to read this one yet, but I LOVE her books. So I bought a copy of this one to giveaway. All you have to do is enter using the form below. Good luck!
