My favorite part of Christmas is spending time with loved ones. Hubby and I both love to bake so we spend a lot of time in the kitchen making goodies to share. Giving gifts made with love to those that appreciate the work that’s gone into them is priceless to me. We visit the elderly and home-bound taking them little packages of our homemade goodies and visiting with them at at time that a lot of them seem to be forgotten. The smile it brings to their faces is the best gift we can get in return. After all Christmas shouldn’t be about packages, boxes and bags and doesn’t have to come from a store. Rather it should be about the true reason for the season and the love that was shown to us for us to share that love with others.

I have many favorites at Christmas. I love piling on our car to ho look at Christmas lights. There is a special place we go each year. The family has a spectacular display. I also love snuggling under a blanket watching traditional favorites of Christmas movies. And if I get a chance, I love to go Christmas caroling. Christmas Eve spent with family is also a highlight. My favorite part of Christmas is Advent . . .when I study the names of Jesus, pray and create all kinds of evangelical gifts/ornaments to give to those who serve me or I am lead to give. I am heading to my daughter’s graduation and will be making gifts along the way to share all along the road trip. maybe i should not answer this question….When a person is not in the right frame of mind, then they do not love anything about any holiday….especially Thanksgiving and Christmas….Thanksgiving was fine for me, but Christmas is not looking good…….a lot of time in my case it is because of pain. When you are in a lot of pain…nothing seems to go right…and you can not enjoy anything when it comes to being around people….So right not i can not say that i like anything that has to do with the holidays. When i am not in this mood, then i do love being around people.

I love our Christmas Eve services, the beautiful Christmas music…hymns and inspirational/contemporary ones…certainly fills me with joy and the anticipation of our Savior’s birth! Love the gathering of family and friends as we share the joys of the season (and comfort each other missing loved-ones who have moved to Heaven) and the true meaning of Christmas.
My grandson (now 13!) loves to come over and put the Christmas tree up and decorate it, I love watching the joy he gets from doing this which gives me much joy in turn (however, I am the one who usually puts the decorations away and takes the tree down, guess it’s not as fun 😉 ). We listen to Christmas music while putting up the tree. He also helps put up our Nativity. He loves to bake and helps me with baking the Christmas cookies, pies and breads as he is able.

I understand your feelings. I was reading these comments just for fun…but when I read yours it hit home. I have been in chronic pain as well and it is really scary. You live minute to minute and nothing is the same as it used to be. Maybe Christmas, for us, is just about remembering Jesus’s birth and hoping that there will be an afterlife without pain, thanks to him. I wish we could all enjoy the carols, food and decorations to the fullest. That used to be my favorite part.
