If you’re a fan of Downton Abbey, you should read Carrie Turansky’s books. The Daughter of Highland Hall is the second of her books in the Edwardian Brides series, but stands on its own. At its essence it is a story of a young woman who is pressed by expectations so high there is no way she can meet them.
Katherine Ramsey has been raised to expect that her life will be fulfilled if she has a season that ends with a marriage proposal from a landed and titled man. Jonathan Foster is studying to be a doctor and determined to help the list of these. Their goals are completely different, but as they spend time together and Katherine’s season begins to fall apart she wonders who she really is and what she should truly want for her future.
This is a story of a young woman learning how to stand on her own despite others expectations. Katherine, like so many, must learn her own heart and what she dreams for the future. The road is far from straight, but in the process she comes to know who she truly is. The story is well-written and compelling. A great read for early 20th Century historical romance fans.

I have loved Carrie Turansky’s books, and Daughter of Highland Hall was wonderful! Looking forward to the 3rd in the series, Rufuge at Highland Hall next fall. In the meantime, I’ll read some Cara Putnam books!! 🙂 Always a great story there!
I like almost any period of history – learning through both nonfiction and fiction reading. It’s fun either way!
I have enjoyed discovering how similar the societal rules, during the Edwardian period were to those of the Regency period. I would have thought some of the rules would have relaxed in the 100 years in between.

I love learning about he social mores…how and why they act like they do in their different “stations” in society.
I have read the Governess of Highland Hall and enjoyed it so much. I am on the waiting list for Daughter at our local library. Before this book even came out the waiting list was long. Carrie has a wonderful way of bringing us into the Edwardian era.

My only exposure to the Edwardian era has been through the Downton Abbey television series. I am completely captivated by the attire, decorum, and the delineation between socio-economic classes.
The connection that Carrie or her marketing director made between her book and the television show was genius! It’s what captured my attention through social media.
While historical and biblical fiction are my favorite genres, I’ve unintentionally skirted this time period. If I win this would be my first #ChriFic of this period and my first Carrie Turansky novel.

This is actually Edwardian, but it’s surprising how little had changed in that time.
I love all fiction written during this period…when things were much more prim & proper…at least on the surface. Add to that the fact that this is Christian fiction, the recipe results in a wonderful reading experience!

I do enjoy learning just about any history…mostly through reading. I enjoyed the first few seasons of Downton Abbey…not so much the longer it went on.
