More Summer Reads & Giveaway

Summer is such a good time to catch up on books. Whether you’re by the pool, on vacation, or capturing moments where you can, here are a few books I’ve read recently and recommend. Read to the end for a giveaway. There’s something for every reader below.

Capture the Moment was a sweetly paced, enjoyable romance set in the Grand Tetons. There are moments of tension as there is a mystery that is woven through the book, but the charm of this book is the setting and the great cast of characters. There are so many well-developed characters. They are truly fun to read about. And I felt transported to the setting. The author does a great job transporting you to the Grand Teton National Park and feeling the grandeur that is everywhere there.

This next novel is historical and such fun.

Ready for a madcap, Gothic novel that reminds me of a classic Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn movie? A Lesson in Propriety has overtones of Bringing Up Baby with goats and a goose running wild along with three somewhat trained ferrets. But the ghosts and walking suits of armor give this book a decidely Gothic flavor. When the author was on Book Talk to share about this novel, she talked about how she had the most fun with building in strong Gothic elements in the setting, and that definitely came through.

Add in a strong blend of characters and a fun, spunky heroine, and A Lesson in Propriety was a light read. The hero was a good one — it felt like he could have used even more page time — but the reasons for the hero and heroine to get together were clean even as it was unsure it would happen. Add in an over-the-top villain, and A Lesson in Propriety was all the fun I’ve come to expect when I pick up one of Jen Turano’s books. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

With The English Masterpiece by my friend Katherine Reay, escape into the world of art and museums in this novel that steps into the world of forgeries and intrigue. Lily is thrilled to have a job at the Tate Museum in London where she is surrounded by some of the world’s best works of art, and she is in awe of her boss Diana. As the pages of the book turn you realize both women are frustrated artists who use their time at the Tate in different ways. But when Lily speaks outloud that a Picasso is a fake, she launches a series of events that the Museum, Diana, and she may never recover from. Along the way, Lily has to decide to become the truest version of herself or settle for being a thin impression of someone’s else Elisa Doolittle. This is a gripping story of intrigue that I loved.

I have an extra copy of The English Masterpiece  that I want to giveaway. All you have to do is use this form for the opportunity to receive it or Austen at Sea.

  2. I really enjoy reading Cara Putman’s books, and am glad our local library appreciates receiving new books to add to their shelves. Another thing that I like is that Cara talks about other books whose authors she likes. To me, that shows real “class!”
