A Trip to My Publisher

Three of my favorite fellow authors: Carrie Stuart Parks, Denise Hunter, and Colleen Coble.

This week I’ve been in Nashville with several of my author friends at an author summit at our publisher, Thomas Nelson/Harper Collins Christian Publishing. This has been a great week to connect with my buddies, editors, and marketing team. I have been geeking out on the big picture and learning so much.

The authors and publishing team!

As authors, writing the book is only one piece of the process. Then we have to figure out the best ways to connect with you and help you know about our books. There are so many ways to do that. Reader events. Facebook. Amazon. Bookstores. Barnes & Noble.

I loved learning the behind the scenes details of what the team is doing to market our books as well as getting tips on what I can do better. I’ve been spending time this month thinking about strategy, so it was a great time to be there with them.

I wish you could have joined us at the hotel and in between sessions. These authors love to talk and connect. And we have a lot to say. People flew in from Toronto, California, Washington DC, Idaho, and other points to participate. That made this an incredible time of getting to know authors that I enjoy, but hadn’t had the chance to spend deep time with. I loved that!

The amazing Tamara Alexander and moi.

There are so many great books coming out from this group of authors. Love historical? It’s coming. Regency? Yep, it’s on the way. Romantic suspense? Sooooo many great books. It’s an exciting time to be writing.

I also LOVED talking next books with my publisher and author. While my next book is due in February, I need to be dreaming up ideas for the next series of contracts, and it was wonderful to sit down with them and ask what I can do to be a better author partner, as well as get initial feedback on ideas. I left very excited to get to work building a couple ideas into fuller proposals.

Authors in one place means selfies.

Curiosity question. How do you like to connect with writers? I’m getting ready to send out a series of newsletters that dive into the behind the scenes for the books I write. To get these, all you need to do is use the form below to join my newsletter list. For doing that, you also get a free ebook copy of my romantic suspense novella Dying for Love, the prequel to the Hidden Justice books.
