Fiction Friday Returns! Plus a Giveaway

Cara Fiction Friday 49 Comments

It’s the start of the new year and that means I have a lot of books to catch up on sharing with you. I’ve been reading up a storm, but haven’t made the time to post about them here. So expect a steady stream of book posts — even a few with non-fiction.

Today I thought I’d relaunch with three of my favorite historic romance authors. Each writes in a different style and time, but I reach for their new releases as fast as I can get my hands on them. First up: Jen Turano’s next release: Flights of Fancy. I adore Jen’s books because these Gilded Age delights are set with the wealthy but with such madcap heroines you never know what to expect. That certainly holds true for this first in her new series. In one word: Delightful! I found myself laughing out loud often. The characters from hero to heroine to children and animals were wonderful. Ian is a wonderful hero and I adore the way that Isadora rises to the occasion when thrust into circumstances so far outside her realm of reality.

Next up is Regina Jennings’ latest novel: The Lieutenant’s Bargain. I’m delighted to inform you that it’s on ebook sale for $1.59 right now. Snag this fun read set in the Indian Territory while you can at this great price. I expect to smile a lot while reading Regina’s books and that definitely happened with this one. However, there was a depth to this on–maybe because the heroine meets with tragedy early and then finds herself in what she thinks is an untenable situation. The hero has loved her from a distance for years, which creates its own set of challenges. Add in all kinds of misunderstandings and mishaps, along with a school full of children that stole the heroine’s heart and min, and it is another thoroughly enjoyable romp through Fort Reno. I love the fresh take on a marriage of convenience. A delightful historical romance.

For those of you who love Jane Austen Regency England, you must read Kristi Ann Hunter. Her next book A Return of Devotion releases February 5th, and I inhaled it this week.  You know how there are characters who crawl under you skin and won’t let you walk away? Daphne is one of those for me. She was a sweet character in the prior book, but now she steps to the foreground. Daphne’s story is poignant and one that needs to be told. William, the hero, grows personally as Daphne works her way beneath his defenses. His journey beneath hers is much more challenging, but her story is told so well. Loved every page. You will inhale it if you read the first, but will thoroughly enjoy this novel on its own. But be prepared to feel. Deeply.
