The Debutante’s Code: A wonderful read

It’s been a while since I’ve gushed about a book I read. The Debutante’s Code is a perfect time to gush! Thanks to Julie Klassen, Sarah Ladd, and others, I’ve grown to love the Regency time period in books. I enjoyed Erica’s first series, but there’s something about this one that knocks it up a level. First, there’s a heroine who’s feisty but confused when she comes back from seven years at boarding school expecting her parents to be there to meet her. Her debut is days away and she tries not to feel abandoned when she’s left in the care of her uncle and an unfamiliar dowager. Then there’s the hero who has been sponsored but its weeks from being cast on his own and has to make a go of being a Bow Street detective, except his boss resents him and won’t give him his own case. Then there’s stolen art, the varying stations, and a tinge of suspense that presses the reader through the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to read the next!

The Debutante’s Code is the perfect blend of regency, mystery, and the hint of a romance that will build with time.

Jane Austen meets Sherlock Holmes in this new Regency mystery series

Newly returned from finishing school, Lady Juliette Thorndike is ready to debut in London society. Due to her years away, she hasn’t spent much time with her parents, and sees them only as the flighty, dilettante couple the other nobles love. But when they disappear, she discovers she never really knew them at all. They’ve been living double lives as government spies–and they’re only the latest in a long history of espionage that is the family’s legacy.

Now Lady Juliette is determined to continue their work. Mentored by her uncle, she plunges into the dangerous world of spies. From the glittering ballrooms of London to the fox hunts, regattas, and soirees of country high society, she must chase down hidden clues, solve the mysterious code her parents left behind, and stay out of danger. All the while, she has to keep her endeavors a secret from her best friend and her suitors–not to mention the nosy, irritatingly handsome Bow Street runner, who suspects her of a daring theft.

Can Lady Juliette outwit her enemies and complete her parents’ last mission?
